The Three Branches

There are three principle branches or subjects within the framework of  Jaques-Dalcroze Education: eurhythmics, solfege and piano improvisation.  These three studies interact and intermingle throughout any given Dalcroze lesson.  The three branches complement one another in a myriad of ways and work together to form a gestalt.

In practical terms, it is very difficult if not impossible to separate one branch from the other.  However, in theory, we are able to differentiate the three branches and discuss them didactically with the understanding that one branch practiced without the others is impracticable.
