Meditation

Meditation is the inner journey, the spiritual journey, the journey toward the Absolute, the journey of divine love.”
Swami Kripalu

Purpose:

  • The purpose of meditation is to help still the mind by reducing the constant “chatter” that transpires throughout each day.  The human mind transmits over 70 billion thoughts every day, which contributes to the stress we all experience.  Reducing this “chatter” therefore, is paramount to good mental and physical health.  In time and with patience, the practitioner will draw his mental energies inward and by tapping sources deep within, he will transcend the mind and allow his true nature to appear.  In due course, truth, consciousness, and bliss will unfold.

Benefits:

  • The benefits of a regular meditation practice are numerous.  Meditation is the ultimate stress reducer because it calms the mind.  Once calmed, the mind will send signals to the body to lower the blood pressure, and reduce the resting heart rate.  Once the body is relaxed and the stress reduced, one is able to sleep peacefully, and thereby, alleviate depression and relieve anxiety.

Process:

  • As those 70 billion thoughts pass through our minds, they rob our bodies of precious energy and create emotional and other disturbances.  Focusing the mind leads to concentration, and concentration eventually lead to meditation.  Methods of concentration include concentration on the breath (physical); concentration on a mantra (mental); and concentration on the image of a deity (emotional/spiritual).

Some CommonTypes of Meditation:

  • Breath Meditation
  • Mantra Meditation
  • Walking Meditation
  • Metta Meditation
  • Meditation on the Third Eye – Ajna Chakra
  • Meditation as doing nothing
