Bethlehem Music Settlement Newsletter October, 2009
|
|
Dear Reader,
Hello! Hope all is well with you. Now that the new school year has begin I finally have found the time to let you all know how things are going and what is coming up in the next few months. Debbie and I will be heading for Spain in early October for our annual vacation. This time it's on the Mediterranean Sea in southern Spain. We are really looking forward to this trip. Our Daughter Tara is giving birth to our third grand child in mid-October. She is expecting a healthy baby girl. We are all so excited including little Ethan John who is doing so very well these days. Therefore, sometime in mid-October Debbie and I will be heading back to Minnesota for that blessed occasion. At the beginning of November I will heading out to Seattle, Washington to do some teaching and then back to Geneva, Switzerland, where I will be doing some work at the Institute Jaques-Dalcroze, my Alma mater, and visiting some of my Swiss friends. Our first recital of the year will be on December 6 at Noble Art Pianos in Easton. Everyone seems to love that place. The pianos are outstanding and the atmosphere is very quaint with all the 19th century charm including high ceilings, beautiful artisan woodwork, stained glass windows, and marble fire places. The program is scheduled for 2:00 PM. Please come if you are available. In December we will also be continuing our tradition of Saturday Group Eurhythmics lessons at Moravian College. Please continue reading. There is a lot more news below. You can always stay in touch through our website. www.bethms.com. Please visit often.

| DOROTHY SUTTON PERFORMANCE FESTIVAL OCTOBER 3, 2009 |
|
![]() |
|
| Many of our students are participating in the 2009 Dorothy Sutton Performance Festival this year. We missed last year because I didn't get the forms in on time. I did this year!
Therefore, I should get a schedule of when each student will perform for the judge about one week before the event. I will notify each participant of their specific time by email. Students take the THEORY EXAMINATION either before their performance exam or after. However, it is a good idea to do it after they play if possible. If the performance exam is in the late afternoon, they will have to take the theory test first. I will advise each student individually as to when they should take the test. The test is not timed. Therefore, remind the children that they should take their time and read each question carefully. Each one should do well. As many of you know, there is a STATE LEVEL where students who perform well and receive a grade of 85% on the theory exam are eligible to perform at Slippery Rock University and receive a certificate and a gold medal. However Slippery Rock is a six hour drive from the Lehigh Valley and none of the LVC/PMTA members are planning to send their eligable students. Therefore, at a meeting just this morning we decided to hold our own HONORS RECITAL for the qualified students where they would perform and then receive a certificate and a gold medal. The recital will be on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Moravian College at 2:00 PM. Remember this recital will be for those students who earned a grade of 85% on the Theory test and received a grade of S (superior) on both of their performance pieces. It's a great idea and even students who live in New Jearsy are eligible. If you want more information about the Festival just click the LVC/PMTA logo above and it will take you directly to the website page. |

| ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS ADJUDICATIONS November 21-22, 2009 |
|
Our next event with the LVC/PMTA is the Achievement Awards. The program is similar to the Dorothy Sutton Performance Festival but without the theory examination. This program is our local chapter's Awards Program and not sponsored by the State PMTA.
The adjudications take place on Saturday, November 21, and the Honors Recital will be held on Sunday, November 22. Both events take place at Moravian College. Students who receive a S+ (superior plus) on their performance on Saturday will be invited to participate in the Honors Recital the next day. Students who receive five S+'s will be given a beautiful plaque commeorating this outstanding acheivement. Many of our students have been awarded this honor and I am sure there will be more to come. If you have any question about the AAA please let me know or you can click the LVC/PMTA logo, which will take you directly to the AAA webpage on the LVC/PMTA site. |

| OCTOBER SCHEDULE |
|
There is a change in the October schedule from the normal. We will be having 2 Theroy Classes for student preparing for the Dorothy Sutton Performance Festival Theory Examination. SEPTEMBER 30. 4:30 - 6:00 AND 6:00 - 7:30. The earlier class is for the younger students the later class is for all the middle and high school students and adults. This change is reflected on your schedules. Please read them over carefully.
A second possible change to the schedule will be sometime after the 16th of October, I think. My daughter Tara, will be delivering her second child sometime around that date. I will be going out to Minnesota once she is home from the hospital, but I have no set date as you can imagine. Naturally, I will schedule any necessary make-ups. I appreciate your understanding. |

| 2009-2010 CALENDAR BROCHURE | |
| I am currently working on the new calendar brochure for all the studio events. I hope I will have it out by the end of September. I apologize for the tardiness, but I simply forgot to do it. I have no excuses. It will include all of the studio's policies (which are also on our website) and all the events for the year, which are also on the website. If you want extra brochures for a friend who may be interested in lessons please help yourself. They will be available at the studio. I am interviewing students who come with a recommendation from past or current student families only.
In order to view the calendar just click my photo. |
